FORGIVEN people are FORGIVING people

Matthew 6:14-15

14 “If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. 15 But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.

We pray to receive forgiveness and share forgiveness. Forgiveness is made possible through God’s love in Jesus Christ. It is not an abstract idealistic philosophical ideal. Forgiveness takes on flesh and bones. Forgiveness is alive and available today.

Just like we ask for daily bread Jesus’ prayer assumes you & I will regularly need to ask for forgiveness. Our constant need for forgiveness is met with the promise that forgiveness is readily and freely offered by our heavenly Father.

The first assumption, we regularly need forgiveness, leads to the second assumption a person who experiences forgiveness in the person and work of Jesus Christ will share that forgiveness. FORGIVEN people are FORGIVING people.

If only forgiveness came with an “on” switch. But forgiveness is more of a process to endure than a switch to flip. Trust the process of forgiveness (How’s that for spiritually inspiring?!?!?!). Embrace the One who embodies forgiveness! Embrace Him for the sake of your trespasses and for the sake of those who trespass against you.

Prayer: Almighty God, whose dear Son left the glories of Heaven to endure the painful process of forgiveness, I open my soul to You to receive Your forgiveness. I regularly demonstrate my need for the Savior. Thank You that I can never out-sin Your infinite gift of forgiveness. Freely I have received Your forgiveness give me strength to freely share Your forgiveness. Your forgiveness is full, perfect and complete mine is often limited. I know I should forgive, in my stronger moments I even want to forgive but my pain, frustration and anger push back. Give me strength Lord to walk in the way of Your cross. May I find it none other than the way of life and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen!
